Filled PTFE
PTFE reinforced with fillers such as glass fiber, carbon, graphite or bronze to improve wear resistance, dimensional stability, compressive performance and other application-specific properties.
Discuss Your ApplicationFilled PTFE Overview
Filled PTFE is polytetrafluoroethylene compounded with reinforcing or functional fillers to modify the mechanical, wear, thermal or electrical behavior of standard PTFE. Common filler systems include glass fiber, carbon, graphite and bronze.
The correct filled PTFE grade depends on the application. Filler type, filler content, operating load, mating surface, chemical exposure and electrical requirements should all be considered before a material is selected.
Filled PTFE Capability
Golden Collar supports filled PTFE materials and custom components for applications that require more wear resistance, load support or dimensional stability than unfilled PTFE can provide.
Filler Selection
Glass, carbon, graphite, bronze and blended filler systems can be considered according to wear, load, friction, conductivity and chemical-service requirements.
Material Processing
Filled PTFE can be produced in molded stock and other applicable forms for subsequent machining into industrial components.
Custom Components
CNC turning and milling support seals, bushings, rings, seats, guides, wear parts and application-specific geometries.
Prototype to Production
Projects can move from material review and drawing evaluation through sample production, inspection and repeat OEM manufacturing.
Key Properties
Filled PTFE is selected when standard PTFE needs additional mechanical, wear or dimensional performance for the intended application.
Wear Resistance
Appropriate fillers can improve wear behavior in sliding, sealing and bearing applications compared with unfilled PTFE.
Reduced Creep
Filled grades are commonly used where lower deformation under sustained load is required.
Compressive Performance
Certain fillers increase hardness and compressive strength, helping PTFE components maintain geometry under higher mechanical loads.
Dimensional Stability
Filled formulations can reduce deformation and improve dimensional stability in demanding mechanical applications.
Thermal & Electrical Behavior
Carbon, bronze and other conductive fillers can change thermal and electrical conductivity, so grade selection should match the application.
Application-Specific Formulation
Different filler systems create different trade-offs. The material should be selected around load, wear, friction, media and mating-surface conditions rather than by filler name alone.
Filled PTFE Options
Filled PTFE does not have one universal property set. Performance depends on the filler system and formulation, so the material should be selected around the operating conditions of the finished component.
| Filler Type | Typical Effect | Common Selection Reason | Design Consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25% Glass Filled PTFE | Improves wear, hardness and resistance to deformation under load | Seals, guides and general mechanical wear parts | Can increase friction and abrasiveness compared with unfilled PTFE |
| 25% Carbon Filled PTFE | Improves wear and compressive performance and can increase conductivity | Dynamic seals, bearings and wear components | Not suitable where strong electrical insulation is required |
| Graphite Filled PTFE Custom filler % | Improves self-lubricating behavior and helps reduce friction | Sliding and dynamic sealing applications | Often combined with other fillers for balanced performance |
| 40% Bronze Filled PTFE | Improves hardness, wear resistance and dimensional stability | Load-bearing bushings and mechanical wear parts | Conductive filler; chemical compatibility should be reviewed |
| Custom / Blended Filled PTFE | Combines multiple performance objectives | Application-specific sealing, wear or motion components | Exact properties depend on the final formulation |
Filled PTFE Technical Documents
Graphite filled PTFE is available with different filler percentages, so technical data should be confirmed for the selected formulation.
Filler selection should be confirmed against load, speed, temperature, mating surface, chemical exposure and electrical requirements. Contact Golden Collar for grade selection and project-specific material data.
Manufacturing Support
Golden Collar supports filled PTFE projects from material selection through custom component production. Filler system, geometry, tolerances, quantities and operating conditions can be reviewed before quotation.
