Engineering Materials

PEEK Material

Unfilled and reinforced PEEK materials for precision parts that require strength, wear resistance and dimensional stability at elevated temperatures.

Material Overview

High-Performance PEEK for Demanding Components

PEEK, or polyether ether ketone, is a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic used in demanding mechanical, thermal and chemical environments. It combines high strength and stiffness with wear resistance, low moisture absorption and good dimensional stability.

Golden Collar supplies PEEK stock shapes and manufactures custom PEEK parts according to drawings. Available grades and dimensions should be confirmed for each project.

Material Performance

Key PEEK Properties

PEEK is selected when a component needs more mechanical, thermal or dimensional performance than conventional engineering plastics can provide.

Strength & Stiffness

PEEK maintains useful mechanical performance under demanding loads and at elevated temperatures.

Wear & Creep Resistance

Suitable grades support bearings, bushings, seals and components exposed to motion or long-term stress.

Dimensional Stability

Low moisture absorption and good resistance to deformation support close-tolerance components.

Chemical & Hydrolysis Resistance

PEEK resists many industrial chemicals, oils, fuels, steam and hot water. Check compatibility against actual service conditions.

Precision Machinability

PEEK can be CNC turned, milled and drilled into complex parts when grade, geometry and heat are properly controlled.

Material Selection

PEEK Grade Options

Select the PEEK grade around the finished component, operating conditions and required documentation.

PEEK Grade Key Characteristics Typical Uses Selection Note
Unfilled PEEK Balanced strength, chemical resistance, electrical insulation and machinability Insulators, valve parts, seals and precision components General-purpose choice where reinforcement is not required
Glass-Filled PEEK Higher stiffness, lower thermal expansion and improved dimensional stability Structural and static-load components Fiber reinforcement can affect machining and mating surfaces
Carbon-Filled PEEK Higher stiffness, improved wear performance and greater thermal conductivity Bearings, wear parts and mechanically loaded components Electrical conductivity and tool wear should be considered
Bearing Grade PEEK Formulated for lower friction and improved wear resistance Bushings, guides, thrust washers and sliding components Confirm filler system, load, speed and mating surface

Final grade selection should consider temperature, load, movement, chemicals, electrical requirements and dimensional tolerances.

Material Comparison

PEEK or PTFE?

Both materials perform in demanding environments, but they solve different engineering problems.

CHOOSE PEEK FOR

Strength & Dimensional Control

PEEK is generally selected when higher mechanical strength, stiffness, wear resistance and dimensional stability are required.

CHOOSE PTFE FOR

Low Friction & Chemical Inertness

PTFE is often preferred when very low friction, broad chemical inertness and electrical insulation are the main requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

PEEK Material FAQs

What is PEEK material?

PEEK is a high-performance semi-crystalline thermoplastic used for parts requiring strength, wear resistance, chemical resistance and dimensional stability at elevated temperatures.

What PEEK grades are available?

Common options include unfilled PEEK, glass-filled PEEK, carbon-filled PEEK and bearing-grade PEEK. Availability depends on the required form and dimensions.

Is PEEK easy to machine?

PEEK can be CNC turned, milled and drilled into accurate components. Reinforcement, heat generation, workholding and part geometry must be controlled during machining.

What is the difference between PEEK and PTFE?

PEEK normally provides higher strength and stiffness. PTFE provides lower friction and broader chemical inertness. The better choice depends on the component and its operating conditions.

What information is needed for a PEEK quotation?

Send the drawing or dimensions, quantity, required grade, tolerances, application and operating conditions. Include any inspection or documentation requirements.
